Modes et Maqams

Cees vd Ven - Eindhoven

Inspired by their successful encounter in 2007, Baraná Trio, the fabulous French hurdy-gurdy player hurdy-gurdy player Valentin Clastrier and Italian tambourine specialist Carlo Rizzo meet again. In Modes et Maqams, inspired by the many faces of Constantinopel / Byzantium / Istanbul, eastern maqams meet western modes. Turkish maqams and European modal techniques lead to new music on old instruments!

In 2009 Baraná Modes et Maqams will record its first CD in this line-up. A journey from Turkey, through Italy and the Middle Ages to France, back through modern times.
